Pleated sediment filters are a cost effective way of removing dirt, rust, algae and other suspended contaminants from the water. They have a large surface area due to the pleats and therefore a low pressure loss through the filter. The filters can be cleaned although this does not clean them back to new, it will however extend their life. 1 micron cartridges is a very good filtering standard. Cartridge life is dependent upon water quality and cartridge micron rating. The majority of whole of house systems in rural applications use 20 micron sediment filters. If an Ultra Violet System is being installed a 5 micron or less sediment filter will be required. Suitable for commercial and residential use.
When the flow rate significantly slows, the cartridge may simply need cleaning and this can be done by placing the cartridge under a running tap/ gentle hose. If source water contains a lot of Algae then more frequent cleaning maybe required.
